How much notice do you need to give a tenant?

Posted: 2/11/2021

There is some confusion over how much notice landlords must give Northern Ireland tenants, after central government ended its extended notice period under Covid rules on 1st October. For NI landlords, it is still 12 weeks, as Stormont has not adopted Westminster's approach. It will remain 12 weeks until May 2022. Our MLAs have decided that it's OK for tenants to pay nothing in rent and for landlords to foot the bills in the meantime. There are a record number of evictions in the court system and a growing homeless problem and this policy is likley to just make the situation worse next year. Remember that you must issue notice in writing to be valid. If you need someone to manage your property, at Key One we are the home of low fees.
