Labour at it again - pushing for rent controls
In an attempt to win votes, Labour's Sadiq Khan is pushing the government to give him the power to freeze rents in London. Citing that it will "help tenants" during Covid-19, he makes no reference as to how to help landlords pay for such a freeze. Landlords have been facing higher and higher tax bills due to recent changes to mortgage interest allowances, there was a freeze on evictions which has escalated rent debt, and landlords face an uncertain future as furloughed tenants are strating to be laid off. No wonder industry experts have branded the proposal "ill-thought" and "reckless". Rent controls were previously aboloished as it was a disaster for both landlords and tenants. At Key One Property we offer landlords VAT free services - keeping costs down.
