Government set to introduce longer minimum tenancies
The housing minister has hinted heavily that the government will introduce new, longer minimum period tenancies. Apparently this is because some tenants have said that short tenancies may be "stressful" for them. However, the government have a track record of making bad decisions without either proper consultation or listening to the industry, and if they think they can grab a few of Labour's voters they will do practically anything. What about the tenants who don't want more than 6 months? Who cares? Not the government. Thankfully, this very one-sided law, if introduced and passed, will likely only be for England and Wales, and Northern Ireland landlords should be spared.
